REINCARNATION (rebirth):
A Hindu or Buddhist doctrine that a person may be reborn
successively into one of five classes of living beings (god or human or
animal or hungry ghost or denizen of Hell) depending on the person's own actions.
We hesitated to include this page on this website.
However, here it is. Now let me tell you the story.
We love cats. The early part of this year we had three
cats, two males and one female. The female was the mouser of the group.
In the early part of the year a male cat began to hang
around our back door looking for food. He looked sickly and weak,
although he was a large cat. My wife, always sympathetic to animals,
undertook a feeding regimen for him. She created a small house for him to
live in and ultimately allowed him to live in our garage in order to keep
warm and build up his strength. Finally she permanently adopted him, took
him to the vet where he got all his shots and she continued to nurse him to a
healthy state. He now is a healthy fun-loving cat. However, I
noticed something strange about him. He seemed to look at you in a manner
which you believed he was transmitting a mental message. But that wasn't the
only thing. He has an uncanny ability to look at you sidewise without moving
his head. Now we have other cats but they all seem to move their heads
in order to see what they want to see. This cat (his name is Buster) rotates
his eyes instead of his head. This does not mean that he has a stiff neck or
anything like that, it simply means that he has a characteristic different
then the other cats with his eye movement. I have also noticed that when cats
look at you, they look at you. When Buster looks at you his eyes almost
reach out to grab your eyes.
So, by now, you probably think that this website has
turned into a Society for the protection of animals. While we are animal advocates, that is not what this is all about.
As I mentioned above, our female cat (named Audrey) is
the mouser of the group. she has a habit of catching field mice
and bringing them to our back door and leaving them there so that we can
see what a great mouser she is.
On September 29, 2009 we found a dead mouse at our back
door. However in addition to the mouse
there was a tuft of
grass laid loosely over the mouse.
I have never seen anything like this before. There was no
wind that day, the mouse was surrounded by at least 20 feet of concrete
patio, and there was no grass or foliage of any kind laying on the patio.
I don't know how this tuft got laid over the mouse, but I
do know that my instant reaction was that Buster, somehow, had
ritualized the death of this mouse. I have n o proof of this but I thought I
would share it with you for you to think about as I have.
